We just got back from Modica, Sicily. It was so hot down there and we were swimming in the sea, so nice! Italy is pretty warm all over right now so it definitely helps to be where there is a beach 🙂
We stopped in to see our friend Alberto at his chocolate factory, Il Modicano. Let me tell you, there are some new flavors! Just to make sure we had our bases covered, we came home with a small (well, medium box) of chocolate bars, about 30 (some were for friends!!) in a nicely wrapped heat proof box:)
First off, some of the yummy chocolate, like the Mezza Notte and Mezza Luna, has bars made with coconut sugar.
The Soy bars also have the coconut sugar, like Cuor di Soia.
The Bianco di Soia is made with Agave, as well as the new flavor, Matcha Tea. It is sooo delicious. I am planning on getting some more on my next trip to Sicily in September.
There are also 2 new spreads – still in the “experimental” phases, however we got to taste some samples and as far as we are concerned….they are ready to go! There is an almond spread and a pistachio spread — that will be so good directly out of the jar and into my mouth with a large spoon!!! For these, I am skipping the gluten-free bread!
When you are in the provincia of Ragusa, you will definitely want to head over to Il Modicano in Modica to get some of the handmade chocolate. The address is Via Merce 69, 97015 Modica, Ragusa Sicily. We can assure you it will be well worth it!!!
